What is the Safe Venue Project?

The Safe Venue Project is an NLG Hotel Group initiative which aims to provide a safer and more relaxed atmosphere for patrons and staff to enjoy, throughout all NLG hotels. Through the implementation of ID scanners, head cams, rostered bathroom checks and an increased focus placed on creating a female friendly environment, the Safe Venue Project has brought a new level of professionalism to hotel’s daily operations.

As apart of the Safe Venue Project, The Driver Dan program has been set up to encourage groups of friends to take turns in being designated driver, to ensure patrons get home safely.

It was developed to encourage sensible behaviour by rewarding designated drivers with free soft drink for the whole night. In venues participating, the driver simply lets the bar staff know of their 'designated driver' status and is given a wristband identifying him/her as "Driver Dan" for the night.
